This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things!

It’s not very often I post negative things here but this one is regarding the very platform I’m using to show you this crap and the recent increase of hackers targeting WordPress.

Well most, if not all, of the hacks are for plugins. Most of these hacks are quickly patched but some are abandoned and some admins aren’t vigilant and don’t keep their installations updated!

I’m not naive, I know I’m not invulnerable, but this is a very slim installation of WordPress with very few plugins (none of which have been knowingly hacked yet) and kept up to date. If it ever does get hacked though I’ll sadly have to discontinue this blog. Hopefully I can stay on top of it and not let anything through between frequent updates. Such a pity that hackers have to get their dirty hands into just about every tiny corner, nook and cranny on the Internet. Sad fact of life.

Cycle “Adventures” Volume 146

Opening on a Christmassy theme… on Remembrance Day! All piss taking aside, I’m not so humbuggy about it this year. It’s been a shit year all round so anything that makes people feel better is OK with me.

The rest of the video is quite eventful with impatience, once again, being the overriding theme. So many drivers just need to get in front, regardless if they’ve anywhere to go, pass with absolutely no regards to the safety of an unprotected person and plenty of red light jumpers, both with and without engines!

Traffic as we approach Christmas this year is just as bad as ever, and when combined with a but of rain it gets abysmal (rain being the other very prominent theme). I find I’m really relying on my wits and experience (and in some cases pure stubbornness) just to stay in one piece more and more!

Now for the video, both on YouTube and LBRY as usual.

Cycle “Adventures” Volume 145

Not as busy as usual, but should have had a few more at the end. More about that later. In the first clip we see a guy on a bike (I refuse to call them cyclists unless they follow the rules) jumping a red light. The pavement is a shared cycle path. He could have used that and not had to jump the red, which is something I’m often tempted to do, but I tend to stick to the roads and follow the Highway Code.

In this video we also see a highly amusing advertising board. Thanks to the Snowflake Society we live in it’s been deemed as racist and has to be removed (but was still there last time I passed). I don’t see it as targeting more than a single person, and I’ve seen far, far worse on prime time TV, but there we go.

As for the missing clips, I was on my way to work when 10 minutes into the journey I realised I’d forgotten my work pass. I phoned in to make sure I would be OK being a little late and no issues there, so I went back to get it, but this meant the crap battery I had in the camera wasn’t going to last so I had to change the camera battery on my way in. I took it out of my backpack at one set of lights and put it in my pocket, but when I went to retrieve said battery at the next set, it had fallen out. I could not find it. Tried to recharge at work but it wasn’t having any of it so no footage on the way home and missed a bus cutting me up and a taxi jumping a red light.

Anyway, I’ve ordered 3 x genuine GoPro batteries which were £20 each but as I pay for the GoPro premium services I paid less than £14 each for them. Enough of the waffle, on with the show!

Cycle “Adventures” Volume 144

The first clip shows a guy on a bike jumping a red light, but if he’d been on the pavement he’d have been legal to do so because it’s a shared cycle path. I’ve often thought of this myself, especially at daft O’clock in the morning, but I consider myself a road user so stick to the road, and the rules that apply.

There were a lot of clippable incidents in the first few days. Thankfully things got a bit quieter or this could have been an hour long 😉

Technical info: Kdenlive won’t use the composite effect over a frozen clip, but I’ve found if you create a blank title clip you can use the composite effect over that and the result is the same. Kdenlive has its quirks and bugs but for a free video editor I’ve still yet to find something that is comparable for my uses!

Cycle “Adventures” Volume 143

What started as a quiet video ended up at over 10 minutes!
Road users complain about cyclists… well there are more motorised road users who just completely ignore Rule 167 of the Highway Code than cyclists who jump red lights, and all down to impatience.

Relevant parts of Rule 167:

DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example

  • approaching or at a road junction on either side of the road
  • where the road narrows
  • stay behind if you are following a cyclist approaching a roundabout or junction, and you intend to turn left

The last one listed here in particular is smashed almost every time I go out!

The last clip of this video is almost a minute on its own, but what a catalogue of cockwombles that contains!

Anyway, you don’t want to read, you want to watch so here are some embeds!

Cycle “Adventures” Volume 142

Well it’s a monster 11.25 volume this time! (That’s what she said!)

Impatience rules the roost, as usual but it’s the last day that stands out.

In the clip at 9.25 you can tell alarm bells are ringing, and boy were they right! A less experienced cyclist would just be another statistic. I just wish I got the registration but sadly not seen.

On the way home in the bin lorry clip, I could see more than the camera shows, and knew it was clear. The car on the opposite side was also blocked.

Finishing with the future drivers being taught to treat cyclists like shit I think this is a very eventful video!

Beware, plenty of swearing at some points!

Achievement Unlocked!

New vlog post below. Now I don’t normally blog about vlogs, they look after themselves, but this one is slightly different because I hit a target I never thought I’d hit. Twitch Affiliate!

I’ll keep saying this, I’m not in it for the money, but if I do get anything I’ll plough it back into the channel. I cannot promise or set any schedules due to shift work, and I’m not about to give up a well paid and very secure job!

Anyway, here’s the vlog on YouTube and LBRY. Watch via your preferred streaming platform, or not at all, it’s your choice 😉

The theme to this collection of clips is:
Must Get In Front!

It’s not a long video in comparison to most because there are 5 days of clips and many are in the small hours. This doesn’t stop so many drivers’ impatience and cycle hatred coming through!

There will be a few weeks before the next one due to some time off, but rest assured that time will fly!

Not sure if it’s YouTube or WordPress but getting that video to embed was more difficult than usual!

Revenge of the Paint Scrapers!

Sometimes I just feel like riding along the middle of the lane, but I’m not an inconsiderate twat. I’ve said enough on this topic so moving on…

I’ve tried something new in this video. Watch for the moving arrows with the discarded cigarette. My views on SEP Syndrome can be found on this very blog right here.

Bonus comedy clip at the end 😉

Cycle “Adventures” Volume 139

This time we have quite a mixed bag.

It starts and ends with a Ninja, red light jumpers (as always), impatience (also as always), some very dangerous and to me aggressive behaviour, lead footers, indecision and even a UFO!

The hot weather really did seem to bring out some very bad driving. It wasn’t just me who noticed this either; I had others mentioning it at work.

One thing I’ll say time and time again, many people on bikes act like twats. This is not an excuse to put them, nor especially those of us who do abide by the road traffic laws, in even more danger just because you don’t like them. What you’re targeting is not an object it’s a living human. Would you just walk up to some random person and threaten them for no reason? Not if you’re a decent human, but being in a car and seeing a bike seems to remove all humanity from some. Don’t be one of those some.
