Demise of Google+

Given the imminent demise of Google+, the lack of trust I have in Faecebook and my doubts of any social media platform managing to stay alive I’ve decided to pay more attention my this, my blog.

I have full control over this so no bugger can take it away from me. It does use WordPress, but it’s not on the WordPress site, it’s installed on my personal server.

I’m not withdrawing from any of the Social Media platforms I currently use and won’t really be using them less, but anything I want to keep will go here, and linked from each platform.

I’m hoping to export my Google+ stream to this blog. It won’t be free but there’s a way to do it that I’ve tested and it works. I do have a lot of posts though. I need to know they’ll categorise properly! 😂

I̶ ̶d̶o̶n̶’̶t̶ ̶a̶l̶l̶o̶w̶ ̶p̶u̶b̶l̶i̶c̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶m̶e̶n̶t̶s̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶b̶l̶o̶g̶ ̶d̶u̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶e̶x̶t̶r̶e̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶m̶o̶u̶n̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶s̶p̶a̶m̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶a̶t̶t̶r̶a̶c̶t̶s̶,̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶ if anyone wants to join in, feel free to set up an account. I do look after this blog, even though I haven’t used it much recently, so I’ll be actively moderating. As I said though, I’ll be linking via the social media so any discussions on them is, of course, still very welcome.

Update: I’ve configured a new anti-spam plugin and enabled public comments. Let’s see how this goes. New accounts are still welcome.

As an aside, MeWe is looking to be the best non-Faecebook alternative at the moment. No public posts there yet, but that’s apparently in testing. No idea if that will fold at some time in the future though, thus my rekindled interest in this 😉

There’s another upcoming social media platform called Solid and involves Tim Berners-Lee, but that seems highly technical so probably won’t be ideal, so blog it is!

Don’t forget to make proper backups then, all hard drives will eventually fail 🙂

Indeed! Though this is held on a VPS. Regular backups made, not lost a file since set up. Even when migrating between servers. Not taking any chances though 😉
